1980 Puch Magnum II-1 1980 Puch Magnum II-2

Reconditioned 1980 Puch Magnum II with some minor modifications. This particular moped originally came with chrome spoked wheels, but we swapped them out for a set of snowflake style mags with new Michelin tires and installed a set of  mid-rise handlebars. The rebuilt 2 speed automatic engine is tuned perfectly, and will perform better than new in areas with larger hills. The Magnum II is a great bike, and is lighter than the Magnum MKII because it utilizes front and rear spring suspension and doesn’t include the 2 stroke oil injection system. (more…)

Everything about this unique vintage moped is sheer awesomeness. When you sit on it for the first time, your eyes examine the components and controls that are polished to a mirror-like finish. Everything is tight and fully functional. The windshield can be removed in a matter of seconds but you have already decided to leave it always attached. The original blinker system that was offered as an option in 1978 has been fully rebuilt as well and you move the directional switch back and forth testing out the blinkers as kind of a pre-ride safety inspection.

Okay, you didn’t come to just sit on it with a big grin making imaginary motor sounds under your breath; you came to ride it! You release the parking brake and give the trike a couple of cranks with the pedals and pull in the starter clutch. The moped comes to life and you are off into the wind leaving the world behind. As you quickly get up to around 15 mph, you hear the engine effortlessly shift into 2nd gear and now the adrenaline starts flowing! This is so much fun and not what you were imagining the ride to be like. The TriRad is very smooth and much more powerful than the old moped you had as a kid.

The engine was fully rebuilt with mild modifications made to accommodate the heavier bike but without any added noise levels or the diminishing of reliability. It climbs hills with ease and keeps up with traffic on the city streets.

There is a small learning curve when riding a motorized trike for the first time. You steer it more like a car as opposed to leaning like a bicycle when cornering. You slow down and shift your body weight into the curve. Once you are through the curve, you twist the throttle again and the TriRad is quickly once again climbing past 30 mph!

The suspension adequately absorbs all the little bumps you encounter but you probably wouldn’t have noticed even if it hadn’t; you were just too busy waving at everyone that you encountered while on your test ride. You signal your final turn back into the parking lot here and toot the horn in approval as you bring the moped to a gentle stop and turn the ignition switch off.  Absolutely AMAZING!

We also have a red TriRad that will be restored if blue just doesn’t do it for you!

Look really close! It is beautifully preserved and now also completely reconditioned.  This 2HP gold Puch Maxi II/auto shift that was owned by a wonderful woman who took very good care of it. She purchased it new in 1982 and was its sole owner and operator. Her husband at the time was against her buying the bike and felt it was a waste of time and money. She she told us how some of her fondest memories were from years ago with that bike and how she toted her young children around with it! Her prized gold moped stayed faithful to her for the last 32 years. Her husband left a long time before that!

This bike has just been detailed and fully serviced and runs excellent. The bike starts on the first kick, and everything works as originally intended. This moped is in excellent condition mechanically and cosmetically, but could use a few details to make it even better. The tank has a few dings in it, the seat has a rip along the rear seam, which has been covered in cloth tape, and the rear trunk door is broken. The tires are not weathered but are starting to get soft and should be replaced over the winter Other than that, it would make an excellent restoration project for someone, or you can enjoy it and ride it proudly just the way it is.

The engine did get a fresh set of piston rings installed and a full tune-up was performed on it, so you are ready to go. We also ported and pre-setup this engine to accommodate a future performance chamber type exhaust if you decide to go that route. Adding a performance exhaust should allow you to reach a speed of around 40+ mph without changing any other stock items. This moped is sold without any warranty, but should be a very reliable daily rider. $795.00 delivered (within a reasonable distance) .

This Magnum doesn’t have a title, but we have verified that there is no current registration or DMV record, which will allow you to obtain a new title quickly in most states. Check your own State and municipality codes and regulations first however; as we can only guarantee a new title if applied for in the state of Minnesota here in the USA.

What is the difference between the Magnum XK, Magnum II and a Magnum MKII? The original Magnums starting in 1978 were the basic red single speed XK and also a heavy-duty Magnum MKII model that featured oil-injection, hydraulic suspension and a 2 speed ZA50 engine. The MKII also came with alloy wheels and a gauge cluster “Dash”. In 1980, the Magnum XK was replaced with the Magnum II. The biggest difference was that the Magnum II now came with a 2 speed engine (without oil injection) and a different paint scheme.
